Senator Jason Barickman was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2012, and represents the 53rd Legislative District. He currently serves as the Senate Assistant Republican Leader, Co-Chair of the Legislative Audit Commission, Minority Spokesperson on the Judiciary Committee, and is a member of the Criminal Law, Education, Executive, and Labor committees. He also serves on the Illinois School Funding Reform Commission.
Senator Barickman has been a leader in the fight to improve the way schools are funded in Illinois and is currently a member of the Governor’s Education Funding Reform Commission.
Previously, he had served in the Illinois House of Representatives since 2011. Barickman was raised on a family farm in Livingston County near Ancona, and graduated from Woodland High School. Barickman is a proud veteran, having served as an infantry soldier in the Illinois Army National Guard.
Barickman attended Illinois State University, graduating with Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. After graduation Jason worked as a business consultant, primarily within the telecommunications and technology industries, before attending the University of Illinois College of Law. Currently he is an attorney at the law offices of Meyer Capel, P. C., where his practice focuses on real estate and business law. Senator Barickman is active in real estate investment and development, and is frequently an Adjunct Faculty member at Illinois State University.
In 2012, Barickman was selected to participate in the inaugural class of the 2012 Edgar Fellows Leadership Program, which works to help future leaders bridge partisan divides and work together, and he continues to be active in that effort.
Jason and his wife, Kristin, live in Bloomington and have two sons.
