Barickman honored by environmental and business groups
Springfield – State Sen. Jason Barickman is being honored for his work in the Illinois General Assembly by organizations representing the environmental and manufacturing sectors.
Barickman received the Environmental Leadership award from The Illinois Environmental Council (IEC), largely for his work on the Natural Areas Stewardship Act.
"In 2017, we were proud to recognize Senator Jason Barickman with our Environmental Leadership Award, one of our highest honors, because of his dedication to conservation of Illinois' outdoor resources,” said Jennifer Walling, Executive Director of the IEC. “This year, he worked to pass the Natural Areas Stewardship Act, which provides for public-private partnerships to care for our most important nature preserve properties in Illinois. We are grateful for his leadership."
The Natural Areas Stewardship Act creates a new grant system to assist non-profit organization in their efforts to protect natural areas.
“Protecting our natural areas is obviously very important to me, and the Natural Areas Stewardship Act is a major win for all those who enjoy the outdoors,” said Sen. Barickman. “I’m proud that I can have a part in protecting these areas for future generations.”
The Technology and Manufacturing Association (TMA) is recognizing Barickman for his pro-manufacturing voting record in the General Assembly.
“Illinois is an international manufacturing powerhouse, and this is a sector of our economy that produces an untold number of good-paying jobs and important economic activity” said Sen. Barickman. “If we want Illinois to be successful, we need to make sure all of our businesses are successful and able to grow and add jobs.”
The TMA rates the voting record of every lawmaker in regard to legislation that affects manufacturers and businesses. Sen. Barickman received a perfect 100 score for 2017, and has a lifetime rating from the TMA of 90.
"The residents fleeing Illinois in record numbers are evidence that we need to do things differently in Springfield. The first step is to support our makers and job creators so we can restore Illinois to its former premier place in America's manufacturing. That's why we are proud to congratulate Senator Barickman for his 100% rating in TMA's 2017 Legislative Scorecard," said Steve Raushenberger, President of the Technology & Manufacturing Association.
