Barickman sponsored bill to streamline interstate subpoena process signed into law

The process of filing out-of-state subpoenas will soon be easier thanks to legislation filed by State Senator Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) and signed into law by Governor Bruce Rauner.

Senate Bill 45 creates the Uniform Interstate Depositions Act, which creates a simple procedure under which discovery subpoenas can be issued from one state to another. This same act has been adopted by a total of 31 states and the District of Columbia.

“This law will speed up the process of interstate subpoenas, which will help streamline our state’s court system,” said Senator Barickman. “This common-sense system will create a more responsive legal system for plaintiffs and defendants alike.”
