Capital funding released for community colleges in Illinois
State Senator Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) is pleased to share that millions of dollars in capital funding have been released to community colleges statewide as part of the Fiscal Year 2019 capital budget. Of those funds, Heartland Community College (HCC) in Normal will see $275,000 in state and local funding to help with campus repairs.
“These funds are needed in order for HCC to move forward with much needed repairs and updates,” said Sen. Barickman. “The capital funding was included in this year’s budget and ensures colleges across the state are able to make necessary maintenances to keep their campuses running smoothly.”
Heartland Community College Projects
Server Room Air Conditioning Replacement:
State Funding: $37,500
Local Funding: $12,500
Project Total: $50,000
The cooling system for the college main data center was improperly designed. Three roof-top units were installed inside the building to meet demand, however, they are 18 years old and failing. The project will replace the three units with new, more efficient and larger capacity units.
Parking Lot Resurfacing:
State Funding: $160,835
Local Funding: $64,165
Project Total: $225,000
Limited maintenance funding has required the college to patch rather than replace deteriorating pavement. These patches are temporary and fail more quickly creating increasingly hazardous areas for students, visitors, and employees.
“We need a strong, up-to-date infrastructure to attract businesses to Illinois,” said Gov. Bruce Rauner. “The funds we’re releasing are included in the bipartisan budget we signed earlier this year. Every dollar we’re investing in these capital projects helps our communities deliver better service to businesses and residents. That’s how government can play a positive role in the Illinois economy.”
